The Yvonne Arnaud Youth Theatre: Scene Change presents
Five Children and It
"If you'll be contented with one wish a day amongst the lot of you I daresay I can screw myself up to it."
When Robert, Anthea, Jane, Cyril, and baby Lamb move from London to the countryside they simply cannot wait to explore their new surroundings. When they investigate a nearby gravel pit they are amazed to discover a strange and ancient Psammead or Sand Fairy. Although rather grumpy at being disturbed, he offers to grant the children whatever they wish for.
From this moment on the five children are taken on all kinds of strange adventures, often leading to the most thrilling and unexpected outcomes…
Five Children and It has been a firm family favourite for more than a century along with Edith Nesbit’s other stories, The Railway Children, The Treasure Seekers and The Phoenix and the Carpet. Now it has been specially adapted with live music, mime and magical puppetry. Scene Change has built a strong reputation for performing newly written adaptations of children’s novels including David Almond’s Clay, Michael Morpurgo’s The War of Jenkins’ Ear and last year’s hit, A Severed Hand and Other Tales by Wilhelm Hauff.
