A Streak of Pride
The summer ends. A lioness and a tigress are in the long grass. Prosecco in hand.
Amidst the endless floating about at parties, absorbed in a sea of chatter, with lots of faces, consuming lots of wine and telling lots of pointless stories about dreary lives, reality has reared its head and things have gone terribly wrong.
For it appears that perfectly reliable husbands cannot be trusted. But faced with violence and betrayal, can these two women bear the consequences together? Can they summon the courage to find a streak of pride?
Directed by Michael Gaunt, this powerful two-hander stars award-winning actress Nicole Faraday – best known for her portrayal of Snowball Merriman in ITV's Bad Girls, Dr Heather Lincoln in BBC's Casualty and Veronica in ITV’s Emmerdale – and Gaynor Arnold – who played Hester in last year’s acclaimed production of The Deep Blue Sea.
A Streak of Pride is written by Guildford playwright Darren Funnell, who was shortlisted for the Bush Theatre writing award. He has written and performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and in local theatre. As a resident of Guildford, he is delighted to present this new play as a way to support new writing in the Mill Studio at Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre.
Michael Gaunt’s last production was The Deep Blue Sea by Terence Rattigan. He is a Fellow of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
