All the World's a Stage
With Bernard Cribbins and Hannah Gordon
All the World’s a Stage is a witty and light-hearted entertainment, exploring the pleasures and pitfalls of rehearsing, performing and interpreting Shakespeare’s plays.
The evening includes personal insights, favourite pieces, sonnets, portraits of great actors past and present, outspoken critical responses to the Bard by other writers, plus a wealth of wonderful, irreverent theatrical stories. Also featured is a lively mixture of reminiscence, readings and songs from plays as diverse as Julius Caesar, The Merchant of Venice, Twelfth Night, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Cymbeline, Macbeth, Henry V, The Tempest and As You Like It. A short Q&A will conclude the evening.
A wonderful opportunity to see one of our true ‘national treasures’, Bernard Cribbins has been an actor for over 70 years and has had a long, distinguished and versatile career in theatre, musicals, TV and film. Many will remember his great songs Hole in the Ground and Right Said Fred, his voices for the Wombles, his appearances in Dr Who and more recently in Old Jack’s Boat on CBeebies.
Hannah Gordon theatre appearances have included Can You Hear Me at the Back, The Country Girl, Light Up the Sky, Shirley Valentine, An Ideal Husband, The Aspern Papers, Mrs Higgins in My Fair Lady and the title role in Mary Stuart at the Edinburgh Festival. Her film work includes Spring & Port Wine and the highly acclaimed The Elephant Man. She is perhaps best known on television for My Wife Next Door, Telford's Change, and the comedy series Joint Account, and the long list includes Lady Bellamy in Upstairs, Downstairs, The Day After the Fair by Thomas Hardy, Mrs Durrell in My Family & Other Animals, and more recently Hustle and Jimmy McGovern’s series Moving On.
