Romeo and Juliet
An outstanding ensemble of actors perform two vibrant and compelling productions, presented in repertoire by The Watermill Theatre.
Risking everything, a young couple defy their feuding families and find love on the streets of Verona. A powerful and explosive staging of Shakespeare’s immortal tale of an all-consuming love, Romeo + Juliet features music by Mumford and Sons, The Vaccines, The Civil Wars, Hozier and Johnny Flynn, performed live by the cast.
The Watermill Theatre has become known around the world for its bold, ensemble driven approach to presenting Shakespeare. Previous productions have toured internationally from Buenos Aries to Singapore, New York to China, from Bangladesh to Japan and in London's West End. In its fiftieth anniversary year, The Watermill Theatre celebrate this rich history by presenting two of Shakespeare's most iconic plays in repertoire.
‘A fresh and richly coloured take on a timeless tale, at once faithful to the text and
comfortable in a modern idiom.’ The Stage
‘Paul Hart creates an edgy approach to the play…’ WhatsonStage
‘A stylish production…’ Oxford Times
‘The cast perform some electrifying rock music, composed by Johnny Flynn, which is enough
to set the heart racing before the show starts. At other times they perfectly deliver a
brooding atmosphere with dark hooded figures loitering in the shadows accompanied by
ominous sound and lighting effects.’ The Reviews Hub
