The Madness of George III
Prior to West End
George III was the third Hanoverian king of Great Britain. He studied science, founded the Royal Academy of Arts, took a keen interest in agriculture and fathered 15 children. During his reign, Great Britain and Ireland became the United Kingdom and Britain lost its American colonies. In spite of all this, he is best-remembered today for his bouts of unbridled lunacy when it seemed that the future of the very monarchy was at stake.
David Haig has recently been nominated for Best Performance in a Play by Theatre Award UK for his portrayal of King George. One of the UK’s most versatile actors, his numerous stage credits include his Olivier Award-winning performance for My Country’s Good. He is joined by Clive Francis, an acclaimed actor and writer, most recently seen in The Reluctant Debutante on tour and in the West End in Enron.
Alan Bennett has been a household name for more than forty years. His numerous plays include The History Boys, Enjoy, Forty Years On, Single Spies, Talking Heads and The Lady in the Van.
Christopher Luscombe has achieved considerable success directing Alan Bennett’s work including Enjoy in the West End and The History Boys.
