The Other Shakespeare
We know Shakespeare’s plays and something of his life, but very little about his wife.
He married very young and she was his senior. They had three children. His son (interestingly named Hamnet) died in childhood. For all his acclaim in London, Shakespeare retired to his home town and his wife.
So who was she?
Roy Chatfield has written an exciting portrait of Anne who married teenage Shakespeare in Stratford. Johanne Murdock whose recent credits include The Merry Wives of Windsor, Macbeth, Richard III, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Hamlet brings Anne magically to life, directed by Ian Flintoff, formerly with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre.
