Residents come together at Yvonne Arnaud Theatre for Local Community and History Month
Residents come together at Yvonne Arnaud Theatre for Local Community and History Month (1-31 May).
Set in the heart of Guildford, the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre is a regional theatre, presenting and producing excellent, vibrant drama. A thriving cultural hub and an artistic resource, the Yvonne Arnaud acts as a meeting point for formal and informal gatherings in its cafe and offers spaces for hire for corporate meetings and private parties.
One group who regularly meet at Yvonne Arnaud Theatre are the young people who attend the various classes within the Yvonne Arnaud Youth Theatre, who meet Monday to Wednesday (except bank holidays), on Saturdays and also Sundays for people with learning difficulties and additional needs. Yvonne Arnaud Youth Theatre also offers workshops during school holidays and regularly shows productions in the 80 seat The Mill studio and on the main stage at Yvonne Arnaud Theatre.
12-year-old Tom Skwarski has been attending the Yvonne Arnaud Youth Theatre for the past three years told us: “The Yvonne Arnaud Youth Theatre brings lots of people together – we’re like a big family, always looking out for each other. It’s great fun and we all have one thing in common – the love of theatre. The classes help to build confidence too.”
Another group who call the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre 'home' is Knit and Natter who meet 10am-12pm every Tuesday in the theatre’s café. Founded eight years ago by Val Brayne, the weekly group regularly attracts 18 members every week, ranging from 22 to 89 years of age and creates a wide range of products, ranging from their own personal items to gloves, blankets and other items for the local special care baby unit and others in need.
Knit and Natter attendee, Ann Durbridge said: “Knit and Natter is great way to meet new people and make good friends while combining your passion for knitting and the cafe offers us a terrific light and airy space, in a great location and the staff are really friendly too.”
