Mr Charles Dickens presents A Christmas Carol

-

Actor John O’Connor delightfully recreates Charles Dickens’s famous performance of his best-loved ghost story.

A Christmas Carol was the first public reading Dickens gave of his own work. He enacted it over 150 times and the effect on the public was phenomenal. ‘The success was most wonderful and prodigious – perfectly overwhelming and astounding altogether!’ he said after the first night. This Christmas, you can experience what it must have been like to be in the audience! Come and enjoy a seasonal treat in the spirit of Christmas past, present and future.

This almost feels immersive. O’Connor’s performance is a delight. A festive treat!

Visiting us safely this Christmas

Over Christmas we will have full houses of intergenerational audiences, all shouting and singing, and milling about around the buildings. We believe the best way to keep them and the casts as safe as possible, in the circumstances, is to know that everyone has tested negative and is wearing a mask.

We please ask that, if you’re 12 or over and attending a show in the Main House or Mill Studio this Christmas, you please bring proof of a negative lateral flow test (from within the past 24 hours)* and have it ready for us to check on arrival. We advise you build in some extra time to allow us to do these checks at the Front Doors.

Please don’t forget your face coverings, and wear them throughout the show.

*What we require as proof is the email or text that is generated when you register a negative lateral flow test online, which you can do here: https://www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result. If you cannot show a screenshot or printed out copy of this, we will accept a photograph of the test (from within the past 24 hours).

The test kits can be collected from most pharmacies and by post, and there is no charge for either the test or registering it on the gov.uk site. You can find your local stockists here https://maps.test-and-trace.nhs.uk/#/, or you can order tests to be posted to you from this link https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests.
