Rosalie

Rosalie

Pleasure Dome Theatre, known for their spectacular open air theatre at Exmoor’s Valley of Rocks, present Rosalie, a one-woman play inspired by Rosalie Chichester 1865-1949: Scientist, Photographer, Explorer, Collector, and unapologetic eccentric, exploring the pressures of female identity and familial responsibility in Victorian England.

Written and performed by Helena Payne and directed by the award-winning Scott Le Crass this offering by Pleasure Dome Theatre sheds light on one of the South West’s most fascinating individuals.

We witnessed the ebb and flow, the joys, private griefs and public angers of a remarkable Victorian/Edwardian free-thinking woman as presented with variety and flawless fluency by one actor, a few props, a choice selection of recorded sounds and a finely-judged piano.
