Education

We offer a range of opportunities for schools, colleges, universities and alternative education providers to engage with the theatre and touring productions. This might include helping you bring a group to a show or delivering engaging creative activities for your students or staff.

If you are interested in workshops or talks on texts, technical theatre, devising, movement or voice, please get in touch.

We are always pleased to have a chat about anything else that might be valuable to you.

Schools Partnership Programme

Discover Theatre Project with Guildford Grove Primary School

We have been working with Guildford Grove Primary School’s Lighthouse Centre to address the gap in provision for deaf children to participate in quality drama activities. From November 2021 to January 2022, key stage 2 pupils took part in nine workshops and activities at the theatre. Focussing on Dick Whittington, the pupils explored the world of backstage, created their own ‘slosh’ scenes, met the panto cast and creatives and practised directing each other in devised scenes.

Read more about this project

The funding for this lovely project included providing a BSL interpreter for an additional panto matinee performance and funded tickets for the children to attend.

The pupils were thrilled to take part in a workshop led by acclaimed SignSong performer, Fletch. Fletch explained her process of translating songs into British Sign Language and taught the children how to project feelings and lyrics for an audience through signing.

'The kids (and adults!) absolutely loved the Panto thank you! They all loved joining in cheering, booing, dancing and there was so much laughter. Lots of parents have already emailed to say how their child absolutely loved it. Thank you so, so much for finding ways of funding the tickets. It was an unforgettable experience for them.' Alice South, Lighthouse Teacher.

The project culminated in a ‘showing’ in the Mill Studio for an invited audience of parents, teachers, school governors, donors and theatre staff.

Through the project the pupils have worked towards Arts Award Explore and their digital logs will be moderated in early March.

‘We received funding towards the project from the Arts Award Access Fund. This has helped us to launch the delivery of Arts Award at the theatre and enabled us to engage with young people who struggle to access high quality arts programmes which support their specific needs.’ Rhiannon Fisher, Head of Creative Learning at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre.

Thank you to the Boris Karloff Charitable Foundation, the Greycourt Trust, the Arts Award Access Fund and Jim Douglas, a Vanbrugh Donor, for their support.

Careers / Work Experience

We are focussing on getting the theatre up and running, after Covid, and this includes creating a new work experience programme.  As a result, we are unable to offer any work experience opportunities in 2022.

However, you would like to have a chat over the phone about careers in the arts and training, find out more about one of our departments or pop over to the theatre sometime for a tour, drop Rhiannon a line and she’ll be happy to help.

Arts Award

Arts Award

The Yvonne Arnaud is an Arts Award Centre. Our trained advisers support the delivery of arts award both in schools and for individuals working to achieve an arts award independently.

Arts Award inspires young people aged up to 25 to grow their arts and leadership talents: it's creative, valuable and accessible.

Arts Award can be achieved at five levels Discover, Explore, Bronze, Silver and Gold.

Our first Arts Award project was with the children of Guildford Grove primary school’s Lighthouse Centre. We received funding towards the project from the Arts Award Access Fund, and other generous supporters, which enabled to provide a great series of workshops for these children who struggle to access high quality arts programmes which support their specific needs.

For more information on how we can support you on your Arts Award journey, please get in touch with Rhiannon Fisher, Head of Creative Learning on: rfisher@yvonne-arnaud.co.uk
